TUBEROUS OR TUBULAR BREAST CORRECTION
Many women in Dallas have a condition that characterizes the shape of their breasts known as tuberous or tubular breast. This is oftentimes treated when the patient is still young, a minor. Sadly, this condition can cause a great deal of anxiety and self esteem issues in women when it goes untreated. Many women are not even aware that they have this particular problem. Tuberous breasts can manifest quite differently on different women, but they usually have some of these common characteristics.
- A high inframammary fold
- Little to no breast tissue in the bottom of the breast
- A narrow base to the breast
- Enlarged nipples
- Dense breast tissue
- A tube-like shape to the breast
From an aesthetic standpoint, tubular breasts are challenging both to the women that have them and the plastic surgeons that correct them. Many doctors lack the experience and technical expertise to rise to the challenge of correcting tuberous breasts. Dr. Hobar has a great deal of experience correcting tuberous breasts. He is often able to do this through augmentation alone, going through an incision in the underarm area that can easily hide the scar.
WHY CHOOSE DR. HOBAR?
Women with tuberous breast deformity are understandably unhappy with the shape of their breasts. It is also not uncommon for them to be asymmetrical, with one breast smaller than the other. Combine their dissatisfaction with the shape of their breasts and possibly asymmetry with the fact that frequently they have a small amount of breast tissue and you usually have a lady that is self conscious and frustrated with her options.
The small amount of breast tissue is due partly in fact to the high position of the inframmary fold – located at the bottom of the breast where the breast meets the chest wall. Since their is no wide, curving base to the breast, there is not a place for the developing tissue. And like a bad sequence of events, this can contribute to a nipple areola complex that is larger – or appears out of proportion – due to the pressure that the misplaced breast tissue creates.
Dr. Hobar feels a great deal of compassion for his patients with tuberous breasts. Because he is dedicated to providing his patients with highly individualized results, he approaches each tubular breast case with an open mind. According to Dr. Hobar, “Women with tuberous breasts have a hard time revealing their true goals and expectations because they have lived with their disappointment for so long that their expectations are either far too low – or completely unrealistic. This is a technically challenging surgery, and it is also one that I enjoy very much because the end result is a woman who has gone from hating her breasts to loving her breasts. I encourage my patients to think outside the box with me and explore all their options. There are some cases where more than one surgery is needed. And there are cases where a lift must be done to remove excess skin. But oftentimes, I can strategically ‘lift’ the breast tissue internally and lower the bottom of the breast without actually cutting on the skin of the breast. Also, there are various types of implants that lend themselves nicely to establishing a well rounded base to the breast.” Dr. Hobar is board certified in plastic surgery and has over 19 years of experience on operating on the breast. He has consistent success with correcting tuberous breasts and is happy to meet with you and discuss what your options are.
With his philosophy of creating an individualized surgical plan that takes into account his patients expectations as well as his keen aesthetic eye for what is both very natural looking and beautiful, women often come in from out of town to have him do their tuberous breast surgery. On the same floor as his private cosmetic surgery practice is The Cloister Hotel which provides 24 hour nursing care and contains suites with beds for patients and a family member or friend. This hotel is attached to the accredited Dallas Day Surgery Center, where Dr. Hobar performs the majority of his cosmetic surgeries.
