A Personal Statement from P. Craig Hobar M.D.

“I consider it a privilege to be a plastic surgeon. At its essence, plastic surgery is a specialty designed to improve quality of life. It's very fulfilling to give my patients a new outlook on life. I am very careful to listen to my patients and make sure that I clearly understand their expectations and use that information to determine who is a good candidate for plastic surgery.

Results that are natural and highly individualized to each patient are very important. I feel strongly that a “cookie-cutter” approach to surgery is not what highlights a person’s assets to their best potential. Therefore, each surgery I perform, whether it is a complete facelift, a rhinoplasty or a breast augmentation, is done with careful thought and consideration to accentuating that person’s existing features so that their result is beautiful, natural and highly individualized.

Safety is something that I refuse to compromise on and I always insist upon using a certified anesthetist or anesthesiologist during all of my procedures. I am proud to be a founding member of the Dallas Day Surgery Center, a fully accredited day surgery center that provides the highest level of patient safety and the most advanced surgical equipment that medicine has to offer.

As you will see throughout this site, I am involved with several professional organizations and educational institutions. I am continually exposed to the latest advancements in plastic surgery - both good and bad - and am very selective of the procedures I will perform. I must be convinced that a procedure is safe, effective and beneficial to my patient before I will perform it.

The LEAP Foundation is a very important part of my life that I am honored to commit my time, energy and resources. With the help of two nurses, I started this organization in 1991 with the goal of taking a surgical team to the Dominican Republic to operate on babies born with cleft lips and palates. We planned for a one time venture. I had no idea that I was about to embark on the most incredible adventure of my life that is now 17 years in the making and going stronger than ever. We have either been to or operated on patients from the Dominican Republic, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Laos, India, Yemen, Algeria and China. We are currently planning trips to Bhutan, Cambodia, and Zimbabwe. I am privileged to be associated with over 300 of the most dedicated, selfless, giving people who volunteer their services for LEAP. We have a budget that consists of one underpaid mission director named Sherry Colburn, who works 24/7 for LEAP. While gets little salary and no health, insurance or retirement, she will tell you she has the best benefit package around.

Somehow, every time in my life that I have taken a step towards Christ, He has blessed me with adventure and fulfillment. Has the path for LEAP been easy? Absolutely not, we have had innumerous challenges that would have given us the excuse to say: “we accomplished a lot of good, but it’s time to move on”. But somehow, the rewards of persisting through adversity to spread and receive love, doesn’t allow that to ever be a consideration.
