Life Enhancement Association For People

P. Craig Hobar, M.D. received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1982 from the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Hobar completed seven years of residency training in both general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery and then completed a Fellowship in Craniofacial Plastic Surgery at New York University Medical Center. He holds his board certification from the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Hobar has been in private practice since 1990. He is a founder of the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, a team of eight surgeons dedicated to the advancement of plastic and reconstructive surgery and excellence in patient care.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Hobar trains residents at UT Southwestern Medical Center in plastic and reconstructive surgery and is a Director of the Craniofacial Fellowship Program at the medical school. At Children's Medical Center of Dallas, Dr. Hobar is Head of Craniofacial Surgery.

Throughout his practice, Dr. Hobar has brought many innovations to the care of children with cleft and craniofacial deformities. These include presurgical orthopedics in clefts, helmet molding of asymmetrical heads, bone expansion, and the use of hydroxyapatite as a bone substitute. Such contributions have brought local and national media attention. Dr. Hobar received an award from the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgery for his research concerning the importance of the outer layer of the brain in forming the skull.

Having a keen interest in cosmetic surgery, Dr. Hobar realizes that when performed for the right reasons, cosmetic surgery can markedly enhance a person's quality of life. His unique background in craniofacial surgery gives him an in-depth understanding of the structure and form of the face. He regularly participates in numerous national and international meetings in order to be on the forefront in all aspects of craniofacial and cosmetic surgery procedures.

Dr. Hobar has published numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters. He is on faculty at the annual "Advances and Updates in Plastic Surgery" sponsored by the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. His interests span the spectrum of plastic surgery from craniofacial to aesthetic surgery (rhinoplasty, body contouring (liposuction), and facial aesthetics.)

Out of a desire to help those in need, Dr. Hobar founded Life Enhancement Association for People, LEAP, a non-profit organization which makes surgical mission trips to foreign countries offering reconstructive surgery to underprivileged children and adults with facial deformities. LEAP has expanded to include not only plastic surgeons, but also eye specialists, pediatric, hand and general surgeons. LEAP also offers community services including construction of school facilities and medical education.

Dr. Hobar and his wife Robin have three busy children, Linsey, Lauren and Matthew, who share Dr. Hobar's love for sports. Dr. Hobar is a Black Belt in Judo and a two-time National Masters Judo Champion. His enjoyment of sports translates into his professional life as he is the team plastic surgeon of the Dallas Stars Hockey Team. He and his family are active members at Park Cities Presbyterian Church, and Dr. Hobar is a regular participant in Bible Study Fellowship.
